Key People in Blockchain History
Blockchain was not invented by any single person. It is the product of cryptographers, academics, open source developers, founders, investors, and regulators pushing against each other for more than forty years.
About this people archive
This archive groups the people who shaped blockchain into seven roles. Pioneers supplied the core ideas, from the public-key exchange described by Whitfield Diffie and Martin Hellman, to David Chaum's blind signatures, to Satoshi Nakamoto assembling proof of work and a peer-to-peer network into a system that actually ran. Academia supplied the proofs those ideas depended on: the timestamp chain of Haber and Stornetta, Byzantine fault tolerance research, and later work on zero-knowledge proofs and consensus security.
Developers and the Ethereum ecosystem turned papers into running code, and their decisions determined how protocols behaved under real attacks, contentious forks, and governance disputes. Entrepreneurs and investors shaped where capital went; the rise and collapse of exchanges, mining firms, and foundations often explains a given year better than any technical change does. Regulators drew the boundaries, moving from early silence, through enforcement during the ICO era, to today's licensing and compliance regimes.
Each category page lists the representative figures, what specifically they contributed, when it happened, and which major events they are connected to, with primary sources you can check.
